Mumbai: Achyut Potdar, veteran Marathi and Hindi film actor who will be forever remembered for his portrayal of the college professor in superhit 3 Idiots, died at the age of 91.
Yesterday, the actor breathed his last at Jupiter Hospital in Thane, where he had been admitted due to health complications. The exact cause of his death has not been revealed.
The news of his death was confirmed on social media by the official Instagram handle of Star Pravah by condoling the death. “A heartfelt tribute to senior actor Achyut Potdar… His smile, simplicity and honesty in every role will always be remembered,” read the note posted in honour of the actor.
Potdar, who performed in more than 125 movies and several television serials, served in the Indian Armed Forces and later worked with the Indian Oil Company.
A household name in Marathi films as well as Bollywood, Potdar's career lasted over three decades. He acted in highly acclaimed movies like 3 Idiots, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Chak De! India, Yuva, and Taal. His gentle screen presence and easy-going acting habitually rendered him a first choice for supporting roles.
Achyut Potdar is best known for his memorable role as a college professor in the blockbuster film 3 Idiots, which featured Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R Madhavan. His line ‘Kehna Kya Chahte Ho’ went viral, leading to many memes on social media.
