New Delhi: Actor Varun Dhawan has reacted to the upcoming box-office clash between his film Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, downplaying concerns with a lighthearted remark.
Yesterday, Dhawan engaged with fans on X during a Varunsays session. When one fan asked, “Kantara se darr nahi lagra? Varunsays,” the actor responded with composure and humour.
“Release date toh production wale set karte hain. Par hum buss apni film pe mehnat kar rahe hain aur logo ko hassane ki koshish. I wish Oct 2nd everyone is laughing and smiling and celebrating,” Dhawan said, emphasising that his focus remains on delivering entertainment rather than worrying about competition.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is positioned as a family entertainer with elements of romance and comedy. Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, the much-anticipated follow-up to the 2022 hit, has already garnered a significant fan following, particularly in Kannada cinema.
The simultaneous release of the two films on October 2 has created buzz among audiences, with industry observers noting that the clash could make for a notable weekend at the box office.
Varun Dhawan also reflected on the commercial failure of his earlier film Baby John, which starred Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi.
A remake of the Tamil film Theri, Baby John told the story of a police officer who goes into hiding to raise his daughter in a safe environment.
Also featuring Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Akshay Oberoi, and Maniesh Paul, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari follows the story of Varun and Janhvi teaming up to make their exes, Sanya and Rohit, jealous.
The duo attends wedding functions, leading to drama, confusion, emotion, and comedic chaos.
Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan under the banners of Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment, the comedy film is scheduled for release on October 2. It is described as a spiritual successor to the Dulhania films.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1, a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, is among the most anticipated releases in Kannada cinema. The earlier film received both critical acclaim and strong box-office returns, raising expectations for the follow-up.
Directed by Rishab Shetty, who also plays the lead role, the film stars Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, and Jayaram. Kantara: Chapter 1 will be released in multiple languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, and English.
