Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri celebrates her birthday on October 20. She was born in 1979 in Queens, New York. Her mother, Marie, was a Czech Christian, while her father, Mohammad Fakhri, was Pakistani. Nargis’ parents divorced when she was just seven years old.
Before entering Bollywood, Nargis gained recognition as a contestant on America’s Next Top Model. She made her Bollywood debut in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 film Rockstar, starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Their on-screen chemistry was widely praised — but did you know Nargis wasn’t the first choice for the role?
“She got off the car at the hotel porch and looked at me. I immediately knew that this is the girl I have come to meet. She also immediately knew that I am the director she had come to meet because she had those eyes, that looked as if they know.”
Imtiaz revealed that he had approached Deepika for Rockstar before any of her films had even released. However, since the project got delayed for several years, he couldn’t cast her when the film finally went into production.
He added, “Many things happened over many years at many places, all of which I might forget, but I will never forget the girl who stepped out of the car at the hotel and looked at me as if she knew.”
Rockstar follows the story of Janardhan, a college student who transforms into the rockstar Jordan after experiencing heartbreak, rebellion, and the price of fame. Both Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri were praised for their performances.
After Rockstar, Nargis appeared in films like Madras Cafe (2013), Main Tera Hero, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, and Kick. She also made her Hollywood debut with the film Spy. Recently Nargis appeared in Housefull 5 after a long gap.
