Mumbai: The producer of the controversial Hindi film 'Padmavat' on Wednesday approached the Supreme Court against the film not being released or screened in certain states. The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, said, ''We would hear the matter.''
The matter was mentioned before the apex court bench by Advocate on Record (AoR) Mahesh Aggarwal, appearing for the producer of 'Padmavat'. The court, however, has not given any date to hear the plea of Aggarwal, but, it said, ''We will hear the plea.'' The producer, in his plea, claimed and questioned the state governments' power to impose a ban on a film when the apex court, in its earlier order, had clarified that screening or releasing of a film can only be suspended in a particular area because of aggravating law and order situation in that area, but it cannot be completely banned.
