Mumbai: The much-hyped film Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, has witnessed a sharp decline at the box office.
Despite an impressive buzz before release, the film has failed to sustain momentum in its first weekend.
According to Sacnilk reports, the film’s worldwide box office collection after four days remains below Rs 50 crore, signalling a disappointing performance for a big-budget release headlined by two popular stars.
After what seems to be a false dawn, Maddock Films' romantic comedy Param Sundari has crash-landed on its first Monday. The film saw a big 65 per cent drop in domestic collections, and an even bigger one overseas, evaporating all chances of a big long run at the box office.
According to Sacnilk, “On Monday, the Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor film earned just Rs 3.50 crore net in India, as opposed to over Rs 10 crore the previous day. This has taken Param Sundari's total domestic collections to Rs 30.25 crore net ( Rs 36.50 crore gross).”
Industry trackers suggest that negative word of mouth and mixed reviews have impacted footfalls, while competition from other releases has further dented its run. The film will now rely heavily on weekday collections to stay afloat, but trade experts believe recovery may be difficult.
Made on a budget of Rs 60 crore, Param Sundari still needs quite a few crores to break even at the box office. That the film has not crossed Rs 50 crore worldwide in four days is definitely a cause of concern for the romantic comedy.
Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Param Sundari also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Renji Panicker, Siddhartha Shankar, Manjot Singh, and Abhishek Banerjee. The film received mixed reviews from critics but has been praised for its music.
