Chennai: A couple of hours after reigniting his possible entry into politics, actor Rajinikanth on Monday disbanded his people's movement Rajini Makkal Mandram  (RMM) as he has no plans to enter politics in future.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of his RMM members at a marriage hall in the city today. In a statement here, he also announced that RMM, without any affiliations, would now function as Rajinikanth Fans Welfare Mandram with the existing office-bearers to serve the people.

Rajini said after declaring that he would not enter politics, it was his duty to clear the air over the functioning of RMM, which was formed ahead of his impending entry into politics.'Now that it did not fructify and since there are no plans to enter politics in future, the RMM is disbanded and its memberswill serve the people as Rajini Fans Welfare Mandram", he said.

It may be recalled that in the run up to the Assembly elections,Rajinikanth, after time and again hinting that he would take theproverbial plunge into politics, categorically ruled out entering politics, due to his prevailing health condition and also citing the COVID pandemic.

Earlier, before meeting the RMM mmembers Rajini said he would be consulting with the RMM office-bearers on whether or not to take the political plunge in the future, reigniting the debate.
However, a couple of hours he made it clear that he has no plans to enter politics in future.

Talking to reporters in front of his Poes Garden residence, he said he has not met RMM office-bearers after he announced in December last year that he would not enter politics, about a
few weeks after he had said that he would form a political party and contest in all the 234-seats in the 2021 Assembly election.

“I could not meet the RMM office bearers after I said that I could not enter politics. "Annathe" (his latest film scheduled to hit the screens for Deepavali festival) shooting got delayed", he said. ''Then we had the Assembly elections followed by the Corona (second wave). I had also went to United States for my health check up and just returned", he said."Whether to continue the RMM and what are going to be its functions are some of the questions that has arisen in the minds of the RMM members and fans. And also, there are questions about whether I
am going to enter politics in future...I will discuss all this with RMM office-bearers and then make an announcement,” he said.(UNI)
