Meerut: A local court has accepted a plea against controversial actress Rakhi Sawant, which alleged that she disrespected Prime Minister Narendra Modi by wearing a black dress with his photo all over it during a function in the US to mark the Independence Day. The petition, filed by a Meerut-based NGO, was accepted by the court of additional chief judicial magistrate here yesterday.
The petition was filed under section 156(3) of the CrPc said Nitin Ahluwalia, advocate representing the NGO. He said that they have requested the court to file a case under Section 294 (any obscene act at public place) and Section 501 (Printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
We will also asked the court to file a case under Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.The court has fixed August 17 as the next date of hearing. The officials of the NGO said they saw the photographs of Rakhi Sawant wearing a dress with Narendra Modi's pictures printed on August 10. The picture has also gone viral on the social media and is available on the internet too. By wearing such a dress, Sawant has degraded the position of the Prime Minister not just in India but also across the world, they alleged. "Lata, vice president of Progressive Women Welfare Society, a city-based NGO, who filed the petition, said. "Sawant wore the dress in order to disrespect the PM, as she knew that she would get publicity by wearing a dress like that," she said. The actress grabbed the headlines two days ago when she went to an event in the US wearing a black dress with the PM's pictures printed on it. (UNI)
