Thiruvananthapuram: Helmed by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov, ‘The Shameless’ tells the story of two prostitutes falling in love and their fight against the social norms that deny them the choice of free will.

The story follows Renuka, who elopes from a brothel after stabbing a policeman to death. She takes refuge in a community of sex workers, where she meets Devika, who is condemned to a life of prostitution.

The film will be screened at the IFFK on December 18 at Sree Theatre at 3:15 pm under the Kaleidoscope Category.

The story develops into their forbidden romance and their escape from the law. Anasuya Sengupta and Omara Shetty played the lead roles, for which Sengupta achieved the Un Certain Regard prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

The film explores the dilemma these lovers face, subjugated by the social order and morality. The film questions gender roles and social stigmas that define the freedom of individuals and champions the rights of the queer community.

It took over 10 years to complete the film, which was initially conceived as a documentary. Later the film received funding from 4 countries.
