Itanagar: In a moving tribute to the nation's bravehearts, the Wakro Sisters - Ashapmai Dellang and Behelti Ama - dedicated their public recital in Tezu, Lohit district, to the Defence Forces and the martyrs who have laid down their lives defending India's borders.

The recital, part of the Wakro Sisters' ongoing performance tour from May 6, was jointly organised by the NSS and NCC Units of Indira Gandhi Govt College, Tezu, in collaboration with Bamboosa Library at the college premises on Friday evening.

Addressing the gathering, Major Govind from 4 Madras Regiment of the Indian Army, representing the Commander of the 181 Mountain Brigade and the Commanding Officer, 4 Madras, praised the Wakro Sisters, calling their effort as ‘an amazing performance’, and applauded their contribution to popularising the Carnatic music.

Referring to the present border tensions, he reassured the audience that there is no need to feel insecure, stating that the Defence Forces are doing their best to protect the nation’s interests. He also advised the public not to get carried away by fake news on social media, but to rely only on the official sources.

A large gathering of music lovers from Tezu and Roing, including college students and library volunteers attended the one-hour recital that featured classical kritis in Telugu and Tamil, and concluded with a patriotic song in Sanskrit. It saw absorbing and delightful rhythmic interactions by the violin and mridangam artistes Gautham Narayan and Vasudevan MM, and the play of words by the singers.
