COVID-19: India logs 1.49 Lakh new cases; death tally crosses 5 Lakh mark

New Delhi: India recorded 1,49,394 fresh Covid-19 cases, while the daily positivity rate stood at 9.27 percent, as per the Union Health Ministry data on Friday.
A total 1,072 deaths were reported, taking the total fatality count to 5,00,055
The Ministry said the total active cases in the country stood at 14,35,569. The active case comprise 3.42 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has decreased to 95.39 per cent.
The recovery tally rose to 4,00,17,088 as 2,46,674 people got freed from the disease.
According to the bulletin issued, 73.58 crore tests for Covid-19 have been done so far. In the last 24 hours, a total of 16,11,666 tests have been conducted.
"India has administered 168.47 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive," Ministry data said.
Meanwhile he Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will hold a meeting on Friday in the view of dropping of Covid-19 cases in the national capital.
Anil Baijal, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will chair the virtual meeting, where Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also be present.
In the earlier meeting which was held on January 27 the Delhi government lifted weekend curfew as well as the odd-even restrictions for shops.
Delhi on Thursday reported 2,668 fresh Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths, while the positivity rate dropped to 4.3 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.
With this, the national capital's case count increased to 18,38,647 and the death toll climbed to 25,932, the latest health bulletin stated. (UNI)
