COVID-19: India registers 6,984 new cases, 247 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India reported 6,984 new COVID-19 cases and 247 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of deceased to 47,6135 in the country according to the Union Health Ministry’s data on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases declined to 87,562, the lowest in 564 days, which presently constituted 0.25 percent, lowest since March 2020, Ministry’s data said.
The recovery rate touched 98. 38 per cent as 8,168 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,41,46,931.
“The daily positivity rate is 0.59 per cent, which is less than 2 per cent for the last 72 days, whereas the weekly positivity rate is 0.67 per cent which also remains less than 1 per cent for the last 31 days now,” the Ministry reported.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. India has so far conducted over 65.88 Crore tests across the country.
With the administration of 68,89,025 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 134.61 Cr the Ministry said.
“More than 140.47 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through direct state procurement category.
More than 16.49 Cr balance and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs,” said the Ministry. (UNI)
