COVID-19: India registers 7,974 new cases, 343 deaths in the last 24 hours

New Delhi: India reported 7,974 new COVID-19 cases and 343 related deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of coronavirus deaths in the country to 4,76,478 according to the Union Health Ministry’s data on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active cases have declined to 87,245 the lowest in 563 days, which presently constituted 0.25 percent, lowest since March 2020, Ministry’s data said.
The recovery rate touched 98. 38 per cent as 7,948 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,41,54,879.
“The daily positivity rate is 0.57 per cent, which is less than 2 per cent for the last 73 days, whereas the weekly positivity rate is 0.64 per cent which also remains less than 1 per cent for the last 32 days now,” the Ministry reported.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. India has so far conducted over 66.02 Crore tests across the country.
With the administration of 60,12,425 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 135.25 Cr the Ministry said.
“More than 141.80 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through direct state procurement category.
More than 16.42 Cr balance and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs,” said the Ministry. (UNI)
