COVID-19: India reports 38,948 new cases, 219 deaths in last 24 hrs

New Delhi: India logged 38,948 new COVID cases and 219 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.
The daily positivity rate of the infection rose to 2.76 per cent from 2.45 per cent in the country while the active cases have crossed the four lakh-mark. The tally of active cases were declined by 5,174 in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry's bulletin.
The active caseload now stands at 4,04,874, which makes 1.23 per cent of the total cases, the figures showed.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated last week that Kerala and Maharashtra were driving around 75 per cent of the total active cases.
The latest addition has pushed the cumulative case tally to 3,30,27,621 whereas the death toll has climbed to 4,40,752, according to the data.
Meanwhile, 43,903 more people recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,21,81,995. As per the data, the recovery rate increased to 97.44 per cent from 97.42 per cent.
The Ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (2.62 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 73 days now.
A total of 53,14,68,867 samples were tested up to September 5, 2021, for Covid-19. Of these, 14,10,649 samples were tested on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
On the vaccination front, 68,75,41,762 doses have been administered since January 16 this year, of which 25,23,089 doses were administered in the past 24 hours. (UNI)
