COVID-19: India reports 40,120 new cases, 585 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: As many as 40,120 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the country during the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative tally of cases to 3,21,17,826 while 585 succumbed in the same period.
The fresh fatalities mounted the death toll to 4,30,254.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases declined by 2,760, to stand at 3,85,227. It is now 1.20 per cent of the total caseload.
On the recovery front, 42,295 patients were cured and discharged in the past one day, taking the total recovery count to 3,13,02,345, which is 97.46 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate remained steady at 1.34 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 48,94,70,779 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Of this, 19,70,495 were tested on Thursday.
Till now, 52,95,82,956 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccines, with 57,31,574 being inoculated against the virus in the past 24 hours. (UNI)
