New Delhi: Precaution doses of Covid-19 vaccines for population above 18 years of age to begin from April 10 at Private Covid Vaccination Centres (PCVC), the Union government announced on Friday.
People who have completed nine months from the date of their second jab are eligible for the precaution dose, it added.
The Centre specified that the facility of precaution doses to this population cohort will only be available at PCVCs.
"It has been decided that precaution dose of Covid vaccines will be made available to 18+ population group at private vaccination centres. The administration ... through private vaccination centres will start from April 10. All those who are more than 18 years of age and have completed 9 months after the administration of second dose would be eligible," said the statement.
Precaution dose is the third dose of the same vaccine that has been administered to an individual. This means that if one got Covishield in the first two doses, the third dose will also be of Covishield. The same rule applies for Covaxin as well.
Meanwhile, the government said that more than 2.4 crore precaution doses have been administered to healthcare and frontline workers and those over 60 years. (UNI)
