Beijing: Shanghai's residents are facing food shortage as they have been barred from leaving homes for even essential reasons amid the city's biggest ever Covid-19 outbreak.
On Wednesday, Shanghai registered around 20,000 Covid-19 cases, breaking its old record.
According to officials, the city is "facing" difficulties and attempts are being made to improve the situation.
Last week, officials had implemented a staggered lockdown where the city was split into two and each half had separate measures.
On Monday, the lockdown was extended indefinitely covering the entire city of 25 million people, BBC said.
As per the new Covid rules, the residents will have to order in food and water.
Meanwhile, several residents have complained that in some areas, they have been unable to order any food or water supplies.
Though the government has been delivering the essential supplies but there have been delays, residents alleged.
"Please solve the problem of insufficient delivery capacity as soon as possible," one user wrote on social media site Weibo in response to city officials' video message, BBC said. (UNI)
