Shimla: International and National guidelines states that breast feeding to new born is safe provided sufficient precautions being followed, it was announced here on Thursday.
A spokesperson of Health Department said here on Thursday that as per the National and International Public Health Guidelines, it is completely safe to breastfeed the new born and young infants after taking due precautions.
Therefore, such mothers may initiate breastfeeding within 1st hour of delivery.
The infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months.
If the mother is suspected/confirmed Covid?19 case then she should take adequate precautions such as wearing a triple layer mask, washing hands frequently with soap and water at least for 40 seconds or use alcohol based sanitizer for at least 20 seconds before touching the baby, spokesperson added.
