Tragedy at Hyderabad Krishnashtami celebrations: Chariot touches live wires; 5 killed, 4 injured

Hyderabad: A tragic accident occurred during Sri Krishnashtami celebrations in the city on Sunday night when a chariot procession turned fatal at Ramanthapur Gokhale Nagar under Uppal police station limits.

The mishap took place after a chariot carrying the idol of Lord Krishna, part of a procession organised at the Yadav Sangam function hall, was being pushed back inside after the festivities. As nine people were moving the chariot, it came in contact with overhead electric wires, resulting in a massive electric shock.

Five people died on the spot, while four others sustained serious injuries. The deceased were identified as Krishna Yadav (24), Srikanth Reddy (35), Suresh Yadav (34), Rudra Vikas (39), and Rajendra Reddy (39). The injured were rushed to a private hospital for advanced treatment.

Police reached the spot, registered a case, and shifted the bodies to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.

Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed deep shock over the incident. They sought details from officials, reviewed the condition of the injured, and instructed that quality medical care be ensured. They also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and advised caution near electric wires during rains.

BRS Working President K T Rama Rao also expressed grief, describing the loss of five lives as heartbreaking. Extending condolences to the families of the deceased, he wished a speedy recovery for the injured and urged the government to support the victims’ families, provide better medical care, and take precautions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
