Sharad Purnima, one of the most significant days in Hinduism, will be observed on Monday, October 6, 2025. This full moon marks the onset of the autumn season and is believed to be the night when the moon showers nectar that blesses devotees with health, prosperity, and love. Scriptures also state that Lord Krishna performed the Maharas with the Gopis on this sacred night. A well-known tradition is to prepare kheer (milk-rice pudding) and place it under the moonlight, which is said to enhance fortune and well-being.
Date and Time of Sharad Purnima 2025
As per the Hindu calendar, the full moon (Purnima) of the Ashwin month will begin at 12:24 pm on October 6 and end at 9:18 am on October 7. Thus, Sharad Purnima will be celebrated on October 6.
Bhadra on Sharad Purnima
This year, the celebration is affected by the presence of Bhadra, considered inauspicious for rituals and auspicious work. On October 6, Bhadra will remain in effect from 12:23 pm to 10:53 pm. Therefore, astrologers recommend performing rituals, including placing kheer under the moonlight, only after the Bhadra period ends.
Auspicious Time to Place Kheer Under the Moonlight
According to the Drik Panchang, the Labh-Unnati Muhurta will be between 10:37 pm and 12:09 am (October 6–7). Since Bhadra ends at 10:53 pm, the ideal time to keep kheer under the moonlight will be after that.
