Bad escalator and a bad teleprompter!, that's all I got from the United Nations: US President Trump slams world body in address

New York: US President Donald Trump was unsparing in his criticism of the United Nations, accusing the world body of having done nothing to help him in his efforts to end “seven wars”. All he got from the United Nations was “a teleprompter that did not work” and an escalator that stopped in the middle, and if it weren’t for First Lady Melania Trump and himself being in “great shape”, they would have fallen.

In his address to the 80th UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President Trump said he had helped end seven wars in his seven months of office.

“I ended seven wars, and in places they were raging with countless thousands of people. This includes Cambodia, and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, the Congo and Rwanda, a vicious violent war that was. Pakistan and India, Israel and Iraq, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

He said that “no president or prime minister or for that matter, no other country has done anything close to that, and I did it in just seven months”. He said while it has been an honour to help end the wars, “it’s too bad that I had to do these things, instead of the United Nations doing them”.

“And sadly in all cases, the United Nations did not even try to help, in any of them.”

“I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each one of these countries and never even received a phone call from the UN in offering to help in finalising the deal,” he continued.

“All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that stopped right in the middle. If the First Lady wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen.

“We’re both in good shape, we stood firm”, he said, smiling, to laughter all around.

“And then a teleprompter that didn’t work,” he added.

“These are the two things I got from the United Nations... Bad escalator and a bad teleprompter!”

“I realised that the UN wasn’t there for us, the UN wasn’t there.

“Not during the negotiations, and they were not easy,” he said, asking “and that being the case - what is the purpose of the United Nations?”

However, he smoothened the criticism, adding “The UN has such tremendous potential, but it’s not even close to living up to that. All they seem to do is write a very strongly worded letter, and never follow that letter up.”

“It’s empty words and empty words don’t solve wars. The only thing that solves wars is action,” Trump said.

Later on Truth Social, he posted: “It was a great honor to speak before the United Nations. I believe the speech was very well received. It focused very much on energy and migration/immigration. I have been talking about this for a long period of time and this Forum, was the absolute best from the standpoint of making these two important statements.

“I hope everybody gets to watch it! The teleprompter was broken and the escalator came to a sudden hault (sic) as we were ridding (sic) up to the podium, but both of those events probably made the speech more interesting than it would have been otherwise. It is always an honor to speak at the United Nations, even if, their equipment is somewhat faulty. Make America Great Again!”
