Washington: The murder suspect in the killing of Indian student Sharath Koppu in Kansas city on July 6, was shot dead by the US police.

Three police officers were also injured in the exchange of the fire at two locations, the CNN news reported quoting Jake Becchina of the Kansas City Police Department on Monday.

The shooting began at a motel where undercover and tactical officers found the suspect. He opened fire, striking two officers. Later, he drove away and then fled on foot. Officers exchanged gunfire while chasing him, and a third officer was struck.

The suspect then holed up in an unoccupied house. After a standoff, the suspect came out of the house, exchanged gunfire with officers, and was shot and killed, police added.

All three wounded officers were treated at hospitals and their condition was stable, police said.

The suspect, whom police was yet to identify, was wanted in the death of 25-year-old University of Missouri Kansas City student Sharath Koppu, who was killed in robbery.

Koppu, a resident of Telangana, was a software engineer. He had come to the US in January to pursue his master's degree. He was fatally shot in the back during a suspected attempted robbery at a restaurant where he worked in the US state of Missouri.

Last week, his body was laid to rest in Telangana after his last rites were performed in Warangal. (UNI)
