Guru Purnima is a sacred day to bow down to all our teachers—both spiritual and academic—and seek their blessings. According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Ashadha month. This year Guru Purnima will be celebrated on July 10, 2025.
The day is also known as Ashadhi Purnima or Ashadha Purnima, and is dedicated to expressing gratitude to one’s Guru—be it a teacher, mentor, or spiritual master—who guides us from ignorance to knowledge.
In Hindu scriptures, the Guru is placed even above God. As Lord Shiva himself declares in a verse:
"Gururdevo Gururdharmo, Gururnishtha Param Tapah,
Guruh Parataram Nasti, Trivaram Kathayami Te"
Meaning: Guru is God. Guru is religion. The greatest penance is unshakable faith in God. There is nothing greater than the Guru.
