New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday postponed by two weeks Zakia Jafri’s plea challenging the Special Investigation Team’s clean chit to the then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and senior officials in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

A three-judge bench, headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar, said the matter would be listed after two weeks as the petitioner has circulated a letter seeking adjournment in the case.

Zakia, wife of Congress MLA Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the Gulberg Housing Society massacre during the 2002 Gujarat Riots, moved the Top Court after Gujarat High Court on October 5, 2017 rejected her plea against SIT’s decision.

On February 8, 2012, the SIT had filed a closure report giving a clean chit to Narendra Modi, now the Prime Minister, and senior government officials, saying there was “no prosecutable evidence” against them. (UNI)
