Srinagar: Alert troops today foiled yet another infiltration bid in Gurez sector in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, killing three militants so far as operation was still going on, a Defence ministry spokesman said. Lt Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that troops guarding Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Gurez sector under the cover of darkness early this morning.
When asked to surrender, the infiltrators resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, he said, adding that troops also retaliated and in the encounter, three militants have been killed so far. The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, Col Kalia said. Additional security forces were rushed and entire forest area has been sealed to foil any militant attempt to escape.
