Kolkata: A designated CBI court has sentenced a BSNL cashier, Chandan Biswas, to 7 years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 55,000 in a case of fraudulent payments causing loss to BSNL in 2004.
The special judge of the CBI court in Kolkata has sentenced the accused Chandan Biswas, a former Telecom Office Assistant-cum-Cashier, BSNL, Kolkata, to 7 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.55,000 in the case of fraudulent GPF withdrawals, causing loss to BSNL, court sources said on Friday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation registered a case on November 2, 2004 against accused Chandan Biswas, the former Telecom Office Assistant, cum-cashier. It was alleged that accused Chandan Biswas while serving in Kolkata (1999-2001), conspired with unknown persons to cheat BSNL.
" He fabricated fake office orders for GPF advances and withdrawals in Group D employees' names and secured Rs. 23,19,705 from the Accounts Officer (Cash) which was misappropriated, causing financial loss to BSNL.," the court record said.
After the completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed by CBI on September .2006 against accused Chandan Biswas.
The Court, after trial, found the accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly, sources added.
