Kolkata: A viral telephonic conversation, in which a man claiming to be West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal is heard hurling filthy abuse at a police officer, has caused embarrassment to the party.

The Trinamool Congress has asked Mondal to tender an unconditional apology within the next four hours, else the party will take action against him.

The audio recording of the purported conversation, posted by BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar, has not been independently verified by UNI.

"Just by listening to this viral phone conversation, it becomes clear how terrifying anti-social elements are being carefully protected under the loving shelter of the state's invincible and all-powerful Chief Minister!" Majumdar wrote, posting the audio on his X handle.

In the purported audio clip, the man talking to the IC (Inspector-in-Charge) is heard saying the police officer will be dragged out of the police station and beaten up by people while submitting a deputation. Not only that, vulgar abuses were also directed at the IC’s mother and wife.

The speaker is also heard lashing out at the IC over the police report related to thegathering at a rally.

"The ‘skin-shedding tiger of Birbhum,’ who occasionally suffers from a lack of oxygen to the brain – just listen to the kind of language he uses while speaking to a police officer!" Majumdar said.

Demanding a thorough probe by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee - who also holds the police portfolio - and the Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, the state BJP president wrote, “If the police themselves are not safe from the leaders of Trinamool, what can the common people expect!"

"And what impact will this conversation have on the administration once it goes public? At most, within 48 hours, either the officer will be placed under suspension or transferred to the Sundarbans!" he apprehended.

Mondal, however, alleged that the officer was corrupt.

“If anyone goes to register an FIR, the IC demands money. For the past two months, I have been asking the SP, the Additional SP, and even DGP Rajeev Kumar to remove this IC,” Mondal later told the media.

When asked by the media whether he had informed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Anubrata replied, “I’ve informed everyone – the SP, the DGP, all of them.”

The Trinamool asked Mondal to tender an unconditional apology within the next four hours.

“The party unequivocally disassociates and does not endorse the comments made by Anubrata Mondal against a police officer. We strongly condemn his use of derogatory & unacceptable abusive language,” Trinamool Congress in a press release said.

“The party hereby instructs him to tender an unconditional apology within the next four hours, failing which show cause proceedings will be initiated,” the release said.
