Srinagar: A major tragedy was averted when security forces detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted under a bridge by militants in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, official sources said on Monday.
They said on a specific information that militants had planted IED, security forces and police launched a joint operation in village Tujan and Dalwan in Pulwama late last night.
However, a long search operation in these villages security forces noticed a suspicious object beneath a bridge at Tujan in Pulwama. Describing the bridge very important, sources said it connects Pulwama with central Kashmir district of Badgam.
A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) summoned, they said adding the IED was defused without causing any damage. The nearby area recently witnessed an encounter at Kamrazi in which a soldier and a militant were killed.
The IED was planted to target security force vehicles, they said adding had it been detected and defused it would have caused much damage to life and property as transport service has also been resumed from today after remaining suspended since March this year due to COVID-19 pandemic.(UNI)
