New Delhi: The BJP-Trinamool Congress politics and 'confrontation' took a curious turn after Union Minister and Asansol MP Babul Supriyo was heckled and allegedly manhandled at the Jadavpur University campus in Kolkata.
The development took place at a time when it was largely seen that Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was seeking to buy 'peace' with the central BJP leadership as she brushed aside her strong anti-Narendra Modi stance and met Prime Minister on Wednesday.

In fact, she also held a meeting with BJP chief and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday.

The state BJP leaders feel there is "more to it" than what meets the eyes - vis-a-vis the ugly episode wherein the Union Minister was heckled by a group of students.

Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh has reportedly spoken to Union Home Minister Shah and also shot off a letter to him to look into the matters in details.

Meanwhile, a prominent BJP leader from Asansol-Durgapur region Amitava Banerjee accused the Trinamool Congress dispensation in the state for the 'ugly scene' - which he said "has ashamed" the Jadavpur University nationwide.

"Chhatrader oi buker pata hi hoe na (Students can never have such guts to take on a Union Minister)," Mr Banerjee told UNI over phone.

"My allegation is this was done by some students, some SFI goons and also outside elements at the behest and support of Trinamool Congress party. Why no adequate security was arranged for a Union Minister remains a question. And state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee owes an explanation," said Mr Banerjee, convenor of BJP South Bengal Intellectual cell.

In Delhi, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted to blast at the Mamata Banerjee-led government in the state.

"Shocking state of affairs in Mamata Banerjee's West Bengal.....Will Mamata Banerjee act against this SFI goon? Her inaction will establish her administration's complicity," Mr Malviya said in a series of tweets.

"....Worse are these deranged SFI loonies in Jadavpur University, who are nothing more than canon folder for the Urban Naxals, who want to further their 'Bharat tere tukde honge' agenda", he further wrote.

Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh talking to media has lamented that "...This is not the first time, such unruly things happened in Jadavpur University campus. Some of these students think Jadavpur University is out of law and order administration and this is what makes them behave in such manner".

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Governor and a former BJP leader from West Bengal - Tathagata Roy also has tweeted saying - "I am ashamed to see that in Jadavpur University, where I taught for 20 years, Babul Supriyo, a central minister seriously manhandled without any provocation, presumably by Maoists. I have always held no difference between Fascism and ultra-Leftism. Two sides of a cake...".

For its part, Trinamool Congress has accused the state Governor Mr Dhankar for visiting the campus. The party has said the Governor visited the campus despite requests by Mr Banerjee not to go there.(UNI)
