Railway Board member (Signalling and Telecom) Pradeep Kumar told reporters here on Wednesday that it is proposed to install CCTV cameras at all railway stations and coaches to strengthen the security system. So far, CCTV cameras have been installed in 598 stations and 2,019 coaches.
Installation of CCTV cameras in all railway stations and 7,020 coaches will be completed in the next two years. There are more than 6,000 railway stations in the country.
He said apart from this, electronic interlocking has been completed at 1,927 stations for safe operation of trains and work is going on in this direction at 1,089 stations. In the past year itself, 350 stations have been upgraded with electronic interlocking system.
There are also plans to have at least one centralised traffic control system (CTC) in each zone. In this, rail traffic of more than 200-km can be controlled from one place. Approval has been given to bring a total of 6,966 km of rail route under the CTC system at a cost of Rs 6,328 crore.(UNI)
