Daughter succumbs hours after SPO, Wife killed in militant attack in Pulwama

Srinagar:The daughter of the SPO and his wife who were killed in a militant attack in south Kashmir district of Pulwama Sunday night also succumbed on Monday morning, official sources said.

A police spokesman said that a group of armed militants barged into the house of Special Police Officer (SPO) Fayaz Ahmad at village Hariparigam Awantipora in Pulwama district last night and fired indiscriminately with automatic weapons.

He said Fayaz, his wife and daughter were injured critically in the militant firing. However, they were immediately rushed to hospital where SPO and his wife succumbed. Daughter of SPO also succumbed this morning in the S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

SPO, his wife and daughter laid to rest, JeM militants involved, IGP

Large number of people on Monday participated in the last journey of Special Police Officer (SPO), his wife and daughter, who were killed by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar today visited village Hariparigam, Awantipora to express his condolence to the family members of the deceased SPO.

Hundreds of people from Hariparigam and adjoining villages today joined the ‘Nimaz Jinazah” of SPO Fayaz Ahmad before he was laid to rest at his ancestral grave yard. Later his wife and daughters were buried in the grave yard.

People strongly condemned the killings of SPO, his wife and daughter by militants.IGP Mr Kumar met the family members of SPO and assured them that those responsible for this crime will not be spared.

Talking to reporters he said JeM militants are active in this area. Since JeM are active in the area they are involved in these inhuman killings, he said.

He said the killing has been condemned by people from all walks of life.Mr Kumar said the militants will be identified and neutralized soon.

J&K LG Sinha condemn killing of SPO, wife and daughter by militants

Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday strongly condemned the killing of Special Police Officer (SPO), his wife and daughter in a militant attack in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Sunday night.

In a tweet, Mr Sinha said "I strongly condemn brutal terrorist attack on SPO Fayaz Ahmad & his family at Awantipora. This is an act of cowardice & perpetrators of violence will be brought to justice very soon. My deepest condolences to the family of martyr & prayers for the recovery of injured."

Bukhari condemns killing of SPO, his wife, daughter in Pulwama

Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Monday expressed deep shock and grief over the killing of a Special Police Officer (SPO), his wife and daughter in south Kashmir district of Pulwama late last night.

In a statement issued here, Mr Bukhari described the killings as heart-wrenching and extremely inhuman. “These killings only add to the sufferings and miseries of people in J&K. I have always reiterated that violence in any of its manifestations and motivated by any of the extremist ideologies in the world only beget violence and yield nothing positive for a human civilization,” he added.

Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Mr Bukhari prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and endurance for the kith and kin, relatives, friends and colleagues of the deceased to bear this huge and irreparable loss.

He urged the J&K government to take a review of the security situation and take all necessary measures to prevent such attacks on soft targets.

Mehbooba, Omar condemn killing of SPO, wife and daughter by militants

Former Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah on Monday strongly condemned killing of Special Police Officer (SPO), wife and daughter by militants in south Kashmir district of Pulwama late Sunday night.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba said no words are strong enough to condemn the cowardly attack in Pulwama that left SPO, his wife and daughter dead.

Taking to micro blogging site Twitter, vice chairperson of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) said “ No words are strong enough to condemn the cowardly attack in Awantipora that claimed the lives of a JKP officer Fayaz Ahmad, his wife & daughter. May Allah Ta’aala grant them maghfirat & their loved ones the fortitude to bear this loss."

Omar, vice president of the National Conference (NC) in a tweet said “ I unreservedly condemn the dastardly & cowardly militant attack on the J&K police SPO Fayaz Ahmed, his wife & his young daughter at their home last night. I pray they receive their place in Jannat & their loved ones find strength during this terrible time”.

SPO Fayaz Ahmad, his wife and daughter were killed when militants barged into their house at Pariharigam Awantipora in Pulwama last night and fired indiscriminately last night.(UNI)
