Dr Kalam's 89th Birth Anniversary: PM Modi, Amit Shah and others pay tribute

New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tributes to former President Dr AJP Abdul Kalam on his 89th birth anniversary.

He took to Twitter and posted a picture of former president of India, captioning it: "Tributes to Dr Kalam on his Jayanti. India can never forget his indelible contribution towards national development, be it as a scientist and as the President of India. His life journey gives strength to millions."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted a picture of Bharat Ratna, reading, "Remembering Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on his jayanti. A visionary leader and architect of India's space & missile programmes, who always wanted to build a strong and self-reliant India. His immortal legacy in the field of science and education is an epitome of inspiration."

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, Indian National Congress and Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot too remembered late Dr Kalam.

Also known as the 'Missile Man', Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an aerospace scientist and politician who also served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. His birth anniversary was declared as World Students' Day by the United Nations in 2010.

Tributes paid to Abdul Kalam on his 89th birth anniversary in Rameswaram

Rameswaram:Tributes were paid to former President Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam on his 89th birth anniversary in his home town  of Rameswaram on Thursday.

Ramanathapuram District Collector K.Veera Raghava Rao was among senior revenue officials, besides scientists from the DRDO paid their homage at the memorial of Dr.Kalam.The memorial was decked up with floral beautification.

Dr.Kalam's family members, led by his elder brother A.P.J.Mohammed Muthu Meeran Maraikayar offered "dua" (special prayers) at his memorial.

Public were not allowed to visit the memorial in view of COVID-19 restrictions.The birth anniversary of Dr Kalam, who was also fondly called as "Missile Man of India," was observed as the "Youth Renaissance Day" every year in Tamil Nadu.

Born on October 15, 1931 in Rameswaram, Dr.Kalam served as the 11th President of India between 2002 and 2007. He played a crucial role in the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests and was closely associated with the country's space programmes.

He died of heart attack while delivering a lecture at the India Institute of Management (IIM) in Shillong on July 27, 2015 at the age of 83.(UNI)
