Kaithal: Lance Naik Narendra Sindhu, a 28-year-old soldier from Rohera village in Haryana’s Kaithal district, was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, yesterday.

The braveheart, serving with the Rashtriya Rifles, was part of a joint operation that also neutralized two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists.

Narendra’s cousin, Vikram, shared that preparations for his marriage were underway. He is survived by his parents, Dalbir Singh, a farmer, and Roshni Devi, a homemaker, as well as a younger brother who lives in the United States.

The clash, dubbed "Operation Guddar," took place in the forests of Guddar, Kulgam, after security forces, including the Army’s 9 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a search operation based on intelligence inputs.

One of the slain terrorists was identified as Amir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shopian and an active Lashkar-e-Taiba operative since September 2023. Dar was among 14 terrorists listed by security agencies following an attack in Pahalgam.

Lance Naik Sindhu, who joined the Army nine years ago and was posted in Srinagar for the last four years, was on patrol when the terrorists opened fire. Despite valiant efforts, he succumbed to injuries sustained in the firefight. Two other soldiers were also injured in the operation.

The soldier’s mortal remains will be brought to his native village, Rohera, today, where he will be laid to rest with full state honors. The news of his martyrdom has left his family and community in deep grief.

The ex-Servicemen Welfare Association, led by Jagjit Singh Fauji, expressed solidarity with the family, highlighting Narendra’s dedication to the nation. The sacrifice of the young soldier underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating terrorism in the region.
