New Delhi: Hundreds of people staged a noisy demonstration in the premises of the Jama Masjid here on Friday demanding action against suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for making blasphemous comments on Prophet Mohammad.
A huge crowd poured out of the imposing 17th century mosque in Old Delhi after Friday prayers chanting slogans against Nupur Sharma, whose comments during a television debate caused outrage in the Islamic world and forced the BJP to suspend her from the party.
The protesters, some carrying hand-written posters, said the government should take "strict action" against Sharma.
The BJP has, besides suspending Sharma, sacked another spokesperson, Naveen Jindal, for their comments on the Prophet.
Similar demonstrations against Nupur Sharma also took place after Friday prayers in Prayagraj, Lucknow, Saharanpur and Mordabad in Uttar Pradesh. (UNI)
