Hyderabad:Najaf Ali Khan, grandson of the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, on Friday urged the Telangana Government to restore Osmania General Hospital (OGH) Heritage building back to its glory and strongly condemn its demolition or change of its name.
We support the restoration of the old building and construction of new towers as per the Heritage norms, Ali Khan said in a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Looking at the present pandemic, new variants are fast spreading and a third wave about to start shortly, the restoration of the Heritage building should start immediately to accommodate deserving patients, he said.

My grandfather built this hospital on a vast of land and its longevity can be seen in the fact that even today millions throng the hospital, the Nizam's grandson said that as per the INTACH ( Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) inspection report on the (Structural Stability/Safety) in August 2015, it stated that “The OGH Heritage building is structurally safe and can be made safe for another century barring any natural and human interventions, if properly maintained after”.

In 1920s, the malarial parasite was discovered in the World and Chloroform was administered at the Osmania General Hospital for the first time as an anesthetic, he said in this hospital deserving patients are treated every day not only from Telangana state but also from neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The politicians who are using the situation have no empathy for the poverty stricken people whose last resort is this hospital. Instead of making this existing hospital better, totally absurd suggestions are being put forward.

People with no knowledge speaking on the history and housing capacity of the hospital and also commenting on whether the hospital can adequately serve the patients, he said.
