Ahmedabad: In a shocker of political development, Vijay Rupani who was the successor of Aanandi Bai Patel and rode BJP to power in a tight finish in Gujarat polls 2017 has stepped down as Chief Minister.
After meeting with Governor Vijay Rupani in his first presser briefed the media about quitting the chief ministerial powers. I have conveyed my wishes to work in a party organization under the leadership of the Prime Minister and under the guidance of BJP chief, said Rupani.
The reason for his stepping down as Chief Minister is still unknown. Rupani took oath as Chief Minister in the year 2017 and has tendered resignation at a time when Gujarat is just a year away from state assembly polls.
Mr Rupani who had taken over as Gujarat Chief Minister from Anandi Patel in August 2016 won from Rajkot West assembly segment in the 2017 assembly polls with a margin of over 25,000 votes.
Ever Since Narendra Modi has been promoted as Prime minister the saffron party has been unable to seat a person at the CM post who can propel the party in the long run. The next name of CM will be out soon. (WD)
