Hazare back to Ramlila Maidan, this time for farmers

New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare will begin an indefinite hunger strike on Friday, opting March 23, the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, for his fight for the farmers' issues.The anti-graft crusader paid tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, prior to his strike at Ramlila Maidan.Years after his anti-graft movement in 2011 that had an impact on the country, Hazare will this time take on the present government at the Centre over not appointing the Lokpal, despite having the law in place, in view of probing corruption cases.

The social activist will also voice the grave concerns of the ryots and fight for pension to the farmers with no income and who were senior citizens, along with demanding to pass the Farmer Bill in Parliament.Hazare will stress on the farmers rights, the implementation of Swaminathan Commission and other concerns, such as the minimum support price, loan waivers and others.This time at Ramlila Maidan, farmers from across the country will join Hazare. Security arrangements have been put in place accordingly by the Delhi Police, in view of the movement.

Traffic advisories were also issued by the police, so as to prevent inconvenience to people traveling in the areas around the venue.Meanwhile, farmers from across the country had gathered in the capital on March 13 here at the Parliament Street, protesting against the government's failure to fulfill promises made to them. The ryots demanded waiving-off of electricity bills, establishment of a national level farmer's commission, better health services and a system under which food and nutrition security, apart from sustainability in farming systems.(UNI)
