India logs 14,623 Covid-19 cases & 197 deaths in past 24 hours

New Delhi: India has registered 14,623 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a spike of 12 per cent from a day ago, as per the Union Health Ministry's data released on Wednesday that put the number of fresh deaths at 197.
With this the total tally of coronavirus cases since January 2020 has touched 3,41,08,996, while the toll climbed to 4,52,615.
The recovery rate touched 98.15 per cent, said the Ministry, as 19,446 patients were cured of the SARS CoV2 in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,34,78,247.
The active caseload fell below the 2 lakh-mark and is presently at 1,78,098 -- the lowest in over seven and a half months. Active cases presently constitute 0.52 per cent of the country's total positive cases.
“The daily positivity rate stands at 1.10 per cent, which has remained less than 3 per cent for the last 51 days, whereas weekly positivity rate is 1.34 per cent which has also remained less than 3 per cent for the last 117 days now,” the Ministry reported.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. In the last 24 hours a total of 13,23,702 tests were conducted. India has so far conducted over 59.44 crore.
In the last 24 hours, India administered 41,36,142 vaccine doses as the coverage exceeded 99.12 crore landmark as per provisional reports till 7 a.m. Wednesday,” the Ministry said.
The data suggested more than 102 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through the direct state procurement category.
“More than 10.78 crore balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered,” the data said.(UNI)
