The Army on Saturday paid tribute to Rifleman Jaswinder Singh, who died in the line of duty during an anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir.“#ChinarCorps regrets the unfortunate and untimely demise of Rfn Jaswinder Singh while on operational duty. In this hour of grief, the #IndianArmy stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and is committed in their support,” the Army Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

While the Army didn’t disclose more details, sources said the soldier of the Army’s 34 Rashtiya Rifles died on Friday due to a cardiac arrest during a cordon and a search operation in the Faqeer Gujri Dara Harwan.

A top Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, who was allegedly behind the October 20 attack on construction workers in Ganderbal in which a local doctor and six native labourers were killed, was shot dead during an encounter in the upper reaches of Dachigam in Srinagar on November 3. The combing operation in the vast forest areas connecting upper Dachigam has been going on since that gunbattle.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi paid tributes to the soldier.“General Anil Chauhan #CDS and All Ranks of #IndianArmedForces salute the supreme sacrifice of #Braveheart Rifleman Jaswinder Singh, who laid down his life in the line of duty in J&K. Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family; we stand firmly by your side in this hour of grief,” the headquarters of the Integrated Defence Staff posted on X.
