JEE Main and NEET 2020: ‘Life cannot be stopped’: SC rejects pleas seeking postponement of exams

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a bunch of petitions seeking to postpone JEE Main 2020 and NEET UG examinations after National Testing Agency assured the apex court that all precautions for Covid-19 would be taken during tests.

A three judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra dismissed the petitions seeking to postpone the examinations. While JEE (Main) 2020 is scheduled to be held between 1st to 6th September, NEET UG-2020 will be conducted on 13th September, 2020.

The petitioners contended that there is an alarming spurt of COVID-19 cases in India and in view of which they seeking directions for the NTA to conduct the JEE (Main) 2020 and NEET UG-2020 only after normalcy.

Petitioner students also stated that the decision to hold JEE through online mode NEET through offline mode on centres across India are “utterly arbitrary, whimsical and violative of the fundamental right to life of lakhs of affected students”.

At the outset, Justice Arun Mishra observed that even with corona, everything cannot be fully shut down. “Life cannot be stopped. We have to move ahead with all safeguards,” Justice Mishra observed. (UNI)
