Karunanidhi admitted to hospital for tracheostomy tube change

Chennai: DMK President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanildhi was on Wednesday admitted to Kauvery hospital for change of tracheostomy tube, a procedure he had underwent in December 2016 to optimise his breathing problems.
A bulletin issued by the Hospital here said Mr Karunanidhi would be discharged later today after recovering from the procedure.
It may be recalled that the 95-year-old DMK Patriarch has been confined to his Gopalapuram residence ever since he had a drug induced allergy in October 2016 and was advised rest by the doctors.
The nonagenarian leader was earlier admitted to the Hospital on December one, 2016 for optimisation of nutrition and hydration. He underwent a tracheostomy procedure and was discharged on December seven and was advised rest.
He was again re-admitted to the hospital on December 15 that year following breathing problems due to throat and lung infections and discharged later.
The DMK leader has not been making any public appearance, barring a couple of brief visits to DMK Headquarters 'Anna Aravalayam' and the office of Party organ Murasoli.
In the meantime, leaders of various political parties, called on him at his residence and enquired about his health condition. (UNI)
