Kathua rape: 5 students injured in clashes with forces in Anantnag

Srinagar: At least five students were injured during security forces action on protestors in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, demonstrating against rape and brutal murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu region.Scores of students, including girls, from different educational institutes hit the streets on Wednesday morning at K P road on Khanabal-Pahalgam road in Anantnag, demanding justice for the Kathua girl.
Holding banners and placards that read, ‘Hang till death’, ‘Give justice to Kathua girl’, besides other slogans, the protesting students tried to take out a protest march, demanding death penalty to the culprits.
However, security forces deployed in the area swung into action and stopped the protesting students from moving ahead. As the students didn’t back down, security forces resorted to lathicharge and burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators, who were pelting stones.At least five students were injured in the incident. The injured were immediately taken to District hospital Anantnag from where one of them was referred to a hospital in Srinagar.(UNI)
