Maharashtra crisis: Uddhav Thackeray resigns, jubilation in BJP as Devendra Fadnavis eyes return

Mumbai: In a major development in Maharashtra politics, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday night resigned, ahead of floor test.
The development comes after Supreme Court refused to stay the floor test in the state assembly on Thursday as ordered by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
Thackeray while addressing to cabinet meeting here late this evening thanked its alliance partners NCP and Congress for always supporting him but expressed sadness and said that his own partymen betrayed him that led to the present political crisis in Maharashtra.
Celebrations break out in BJP MLAs camp
Soon after the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced his resignation, BJP MLAs started celebrations at the hotel they are staying in Mumbai.
As per the BJP party directive, all BJP MLAs are camping in a hotel ahead of the floor test.
Talking to media persons, the MLAs expressed confidence that Devendra Fadnavis-led government will provide good governance to state. During the past two and half years nothing has been done by the MVA led government due to lack of coordination between three party alliance government.
One of the MLAs said that Fadnavis has vision of development and he has taken a number of bold decisions during his previous tenure and hopes once again he will take rein of state for overall development. (Inputs from UNI)
