Pune: In a shocking incident, a woman from Kharadi area of city was allegedly cheated of Rs 3.60 crore by a fraudster who met her through the matrimonial site, Shaadi.com.
An 'international' fraudster has been arrested by the Pune Cyber Police in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Abhishek Shukla, who hails from Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that the two met on the famous matrimonial site and the man cheated the woman by creating a fake profile.
Police said the victim, originally from Delhi, was living in Kharadi area of Pune, and she met a man from an online profile called ‘Dr Rohit Oberoi’, who claimed to be an Australian citizen.
After development of friendship, the accused and the woman started living together for some time when the intimacy between them grew after the accused promised her marriage.
The woman had received alimony of Rs five crore from her first husband. She was investing that money in her business (Mindfulness and Spirituality programmes).
On receiving this information, the accused gained her trust and lured her to take her business to the international level.
While fabricating the fraud, the accused used aliases of Yvonne Handyani and Vincent Kuan. He made her to deposit money in bank accounts in Singapore and India from time to time.
Thus, the woman deposited a total of Rs 3,60,18,540 in different bank accounts.
After a few months, the accused stopped talking to her and later his accomplice ‘Vincent’ mailed her fake information about his death. The woman then realised that she had been duped.
