Major fire breaks out in electric bike showroom in Secunderabad, 8 killed; several jumped off to escape death - VIDEOS

Hyderabad: At least eight people have been killed and six others injured in a major fire that broke out in an e-bike showroom situated on the ground floor of a multi-storied building in Secunderabad here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was saddened by the loss of lives due to the fire in Telangana.

"Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon," he tweeted as news of the Monday night blaze was reported.

Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be paid to the next of kin of each dead and Rs 50,000 each to the injured, the PMO tweeted.

The fire that broke out around 11 pm in the electric bike showroom, spread to a lodge on the upper floors, police said.

Of those killed, four have been identified as tourists boarding at the lodge. The injured were undergoing treatment at various hospitals including the state-run Gandhi hospital in the city, police said here.

The exact cause of the fire is being investigated, police said.

The injured were mostly from among those who panicked and tried to jump down from the lodge above to escape the inferno.

Nearly 25 tourists from different places were in the luxury lodge-cum-hotel when the incident occurred, police added.

Firefighters rushed to the spot and with the help of a crane ladder, rescued several tourists in the night, who were trapped.

Minister for Animal Husbandry T Srinivas Yadav , who rushed to the spot last night, said it an unfortunate incident and all the injured were being provided the best treatment.

He said those staying at the lodge were people from other places.

Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali and City Police Commissioner CV Anand visited the spot last night. (UNI)
