Manipur journalist bodies condemn killing of journalist in Tripura

Imphal:The killing of a journalist at Tripura on Sep 20 last has evoked strong reactions from the Manipur journalists bodies. The Editors Guild Manipur strongly condemned killing of Shantanu Bhowmik, a reporter of Dinraat Channel, of Tripura by a mob on 20 September 2017. Guild secretary Rupachandra said Bhowmik was killed when he was doing his duty of collecting news of a clash between two groups in Tripura. It was added the Guild stands by Tripura Journalists Union, the Agartala Press Club and Tripura Working journalists Association as they mourn the death of one of their fellow journalist.
 

All journalists in Manipur too know the pressure under which journalist world over work and hence extend solidarity. It supported the demand of the various journalist organisation of Tripura and asked Tripura government to book the culprits under the law of the land. It also supported the demand for handing over the case to CBI.

EGM considered any attack on any journalist weather in Manipur, Tripura or any where in the world as attack on the freedom speech so essential for functioning of the media. The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union also condemned the killing and staged a protest at the Press Club on Thursday. (UNI)
