Shillong: The Meghalaya police on Thursday arrested a 30-year-old man for posting a controversial message on social media in praise of terrorist attack that killed 26 tourist on Tuesday in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
Simon Shylla (30), a resident of Umlyngka locality in East Khasi Hills district, was arrested by the special cell of Meghalaya police after he posted anti-national comments on a video aired by a Guwahati-based news channel about the Pahalgam terror attack.
“Shylla through his Facebook account named, ‘Man Shylla’ made the comments by supporting the terrorists in their killing and exhorting terrorists to initiate such attacks on a particular community in the North East, threatening the unity and integrity of the country,” Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said on Friday.
Police seized two mobiles from his possession and a case has been registered at Lumdiengjri police station under sections 113(3)/196(1)(a)/147 of the BNS (criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity on the basis of religion and actions that threaten the country's integrity).
