NIA arrests JMB key operative Najir Sheikh in Bengaluru terror case

New Delhi:The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key operative Najir Sheikh alias  Patla Anas of  the proscribed terror  organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Agartala and produced before the NIA Special Court at Bangaluru on Wednesday, an official communication said here on Thursday.
Najir Sheikh, a resident of Murshidabad in West Bengal, was arrested on Tuesday and brought to Bengaluru on transit warrant issued by the Agartala Chief Judicial Magistrate.
 
This case pertains to seizure of five  improvised hand grenades, three fabricated grenade caps, three circuits of IEDs, one timer device, two  rocket bends, one 9mm pistol with live rounds, one air gun, suspected explosive powders and various other incriminating materials used in fabrication of hand grenades and IEDs on July 7, 2019 from a house in Chikkabanavara in  Soladevanahalli Police Station in  Bengaluru District rented by members of proscribed  organisation Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).  
 
 Investigation revealed that Najir was an active member of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) India module. He was staying in Bengaluru along with other JBM members Jahidul Islam, Nazrul Islam, Asif Ikbal, Arif and others. He and his associates from JMB were actively involved in raising funds by committing dacoity in Bengaluru.  
 
 The central terror probe agency further revealed that they had established their hideouts at various places in Bengaluru and made preparations to carry out subversive activities by procuring material and equipment for making IEDs.(UNI)
