On National Press Day, Press Council warns Media on mis reporting

New Delhi: Press Council of India  said that no newspaper is big or small in their eyes and any kind of mis-reporting by any media will not be spared and is bound to be censored.
Talking to mediapersons on the eve of the National Press Day, Chairman of the Press council Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad  said,'' there have been times when the council has censored news carried by prominent newspapers of the country after evaluation of the facts.''
Speaking after a meeting of the council, Justice Prasad, answering a question about fake news, said,'' fake news is a matter of concern. Regular meetings are held and consultations take place regarding fake news and it is important to identify and get on to the evidence of such news''.
 
Speaking during the media briefing, member of the council and United News of India Editor Ashok Upadhyay said that PCI is a body that works and takes care of the entire print media throughout the country and works on various new ideas so as to promote journalism and journalists.
 
''As some sates are about to go for polls, while general elections are also near, we have our nominees in the Election Commission who keep an eye on the news and especially fake news or any such practice that can be unethical with reference to dissemination of information wrongly favouring anyone,'' the PCI chief said. The press council chairman also stressed on the safety, security of journalists on the ground during assignments.
 
'' PCI regularly takes up such issues with the government agencies and also asks the journalists to come forward with suggestions and keeps them updated about the steps it is taking,''he said.(UNI)
