Op Ganga: 6th flight carrying 240 Indians takes off from Budapest

New Delhi: A sixth flight took off from Budapest with 240 Indian nationals as part of Op Ganga to evacuate Indians from war-hit Ukraine.

EAM S Jaishankar, who is personally monitoring the evacuation efforts, said on Monday in a tweet that the flight is headed to Delhi. “Sixth #OperationGanga flight from Budapest. To Delhi with 240 Indian nationals,” he said.

Earlier, a fifth flight with 249 Indian nationals, mostly students, evacuated from Ukraine from Bucharest arrived in Delhi. So far, five flights have evacuated over 1,000 Indians, with one landing in Mumbai and four in Delhi.

On Sunday, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had said at a special briefing that 1,000 Indian nationals have been flown out of Romania and Hungary, and another 1,000 have been evacuated from Ukraine through the land routes.

The government is flying out four ministers - Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju, Hardeep Singh Puri and VK Singh, who will travel to Romania, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland to oversee the evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine. (UNI)
