Part of Andheri bridge gives way; disrupts railway services

Mumbai: A portion of a bridge collapsed at Andheri station in the financial capital on Tuesday morning following incessant rain, affecting train traffic.The Gokhale bridge, connects Andheri East and Andheri West stations and is used by thousands of commuters each day. 
The portion of bridge collapsed in wee hours, ripping off overhead wires which were left on the tracks, resulting in suspension of the local trains on the Western line. 
 
Western Railway spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar said,"A part of the foot overbridge has collapsed which has halted our up and down services of Western Railway. Our officers have reached to the spot and accessing the situation." Traffic at the bridge has been stopped, with commuters reportedly stuck in a three-km  long traffic jam.
 
Trains, en route to  Churchgate from Virar, have to stop at Jogeshwari railway station.Trains destined to Virar from Churchgate, have to stop at Vile Parle.No casualties have been reported in the incident.(UNI)
